All
Stained Glass Is Created Equally. Or is it?
The overall beauty as well as the strength and
durability of a stained or leaded glass panel
is dependent upon the design and the quality of
the craftsmanship.
While design, accuracy and attention to detail
play major roles in visual composition, the type
of came, and the glazing, as well as the metallic
composition of the cames, their cross-section
strength, how well they are joined and soldered,
and the leading pattern within each panel determines
the structural quality of the work.
Proper
construction is crucial to long-term performance
and prevention of premature failures resulting
from poor craftsmanship.
In addition, patterns designed with inadequate
support systems also contribute to structural
failure. Stronger leading techniques, support
bars, or specialty cames are sometimes required
to reinforce a poorly designed panel.
Weak joints contribute to a loose glass housing,
and if glass rattles in the cames when the window
is gently tapped, it is an indicator that the
panel was not well constructed and repair or reinforcement
may be needed. Soldered joints often reveal the
skill level of the artisan who assembled the window,
and can give evidence of past repairs.
With
more than twelve years experience, we proudly
guarantee top quality materials and craftsmanship
of every art glass panel we construct.
